How To Cure An Addiction To Methylphenidate or Ritalin

You have perhaps heard about methylphenidate under the name Ritalin. This drug is abused by some people who do not take it as prescribed. Keep reading if you or someone you know has problems with this drug.

You need to learn a few things about methylphenidate to figure out whether or not you are addicted to this substance. It is usually prescribed to people who suffer from ADHD or other similar conditions that keeps them from focusing on simple tasks. It is possible to experience euphoria and make simple tasks seem a lot more fun if you take large quantities of the medication. If you have been prescribed Ritalin but take more than you are supposed to, it is possible that you developed an addiction. If you purchase this drug from someone else, you are more than likely addicted.

Some individuals obtain this drug through a process called doctor shopping. An addict schedules appointments with different doctors until they find one that will prescribe the drug they want. This behavior is a characteristic of drug addicts. If you have been doctor shopping, you should let your doctor know that you have a problem. Your doctor will advise you on how to get help and will not prescribe a medication that would be dangerous for your addictive personality. Getting rid of an addiction will be a lot easier if you have a doctor who can help you.

This information will help you get rid of an addiction to methylphenidate. Getting over your addiction will not be easy but you will be able to go back to a normal lifestyle if you are ready to work hard and get the help you need. You will feel a lot better once you manage to beat your addiction for good.

The Dangers of Inhalants

Lately, there has been a lot of attention paid to illegal drugs in the hands of minors. But the real danger may not come from plants or chemicals that are only intended as drugs. Many common household items can get abused by "sniffing" them, and these are called inhalants. They often get into the hands of kids who want to be cool or experience a high. These kids do not understand the danger of these substances, and they often are as easy to find as opening up a kitchen cupboard.

Some common inhalants include:

  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Gasoline

In the case of nitrous oxide, it could be used safely for medical purposes. For example, you may get "laughing gas" at the dentist to help you feel relaxed before a procedure. But it is also used as a propellant for some sprays and canisters. In this case, the quality of this gas is not always good, and it might not be pure. Also, it is not taken under the supervision of trained medical professionals like dentists, and it can be very dangerous.

Treatment of Inhalants

If you find out that your teen has been abusing inhalants, you may need to seek treatment of him as with any other type of drug abuse. You should find a center that specializes in treating teens. He may just need out-patient therapy. But if the problem is severe and persistent, you may need to find an in-patient therapy center.

Typical therapy consists of counseling, and it could also include medication to try to alleviate that led your son or daughter to abuse inhalants in the first place. Some kids may just do it to experiment, but it could also be a sign of deeper problems. A trained counselor should have the resources to suggest the right course of action.

Where Teenagers Get Alcohol From

More and more teenagers are choosing to drink alcohol. Where do these young people get their alcohol from, and how can we stop them from drinking unsupervised?

Alcohol is something that a lot of teenagers have easy access to these days. Many teenagers take alcohol from their parents' supply stores. Often they see their parents drinking alcohol during social occasions, and decide that if they were to drink alcohol themselves it would make them feel like they were more grown-up.

Some parents believe that if they allow their child to drink alcohol it will make the act seem less rebellious, and therefore the child will be more responsible about it. This is not a good idea. Some research has found that children and teens who drink even in moderation are more likely to become alcoholics later in their lives.

Alcohol is a toxin and it is bad for the neurological development of young people. In addition, alcohol impairs judgement, and teens, with their developing brains, already struggle to make good decisions.

According to one survey about teen drinking habits and where they get alcohol from, alcohol use is incredibly common among teens:

-Two thirds of teenagers report that they can easily access alcohol in their own home without asking their parents for consent.

-Two fifths of teenagers say that they can get alcohol from the parents of one or more of their friends.

-One quarter of teens say that their own parents will freely give them alcohol.

- One quarter of teens have been given alcohol by the parents of their friends at a party.

It is illegal for an adult to give alcohol to a person that is under the age of 21. If you do this, and that teenager is involved in an accident for which alcohol was a contributing factor then you will be prosecuted. Even if you were not directly involved in the accident you could be fined or end up spending time in jail.

Cold Medicines Are Able To Be Abused

A lot of people that are into drugs these days seem to be into trying out cold medicines with dextromethorphan in them. This is a substance that causes disassociation in the brain, and it can be dangerous to the user after a few times or even the first time if the dose is high enough.

Don't think that just because you can get cold medications at the store that they're safe. Anything in a high enough dose is not going to be good for you. Even water can kill you if you drink way too much of it. The same can be said for every kind of medication. There are doses you're supposed to take for a reason. When you take more than that to try and get high, that means you probably have a drug problem and need to get some help.

You may be able to find a state run program that will get you treatment for free if you have no money, or you can pay for a top of the line facility. Either way, it's best to get some treatment in one way or another before your life spirals out of control. People tend to think that they can stop on their own, but addicts tend to not know when they should be stopping. This is why it pays to get help from a treatment facility of some kind, and you should stay the course even if you feel a lot better.

It's a good idea to quit using cold medicines right away if you seem to have a problem with abusing them. When you're able to really take yourself and figure out that you have a problem, you'll be able to get it fixed right away when you use what you've read here.

How Mental Health Issues Invite Drug and Alcohol Abuse

There has long been a connection between mental health and behavioral issues, and drug and alcohol abuse. This has long been the case, as those with learning disabilities turned to alcohol or early forms of drugs. Today, with a severe lack of efficient care for those with mental issues and disabilities, there are a great many out there suffering from mental health disorders, out on the streets and using substances.

It can be very frustrating for those with mental health issues to deal with day to day live, especially if they are not receiving any form of care or treatment for said mental issues. Many times these individuals attempt to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol -- which can actually make them feel like the problem is being treated, in the beginning. Eventually, this self-medicating is doing more harm, and any earlier perceived notion of "feeling better" is lost.

As the abuse of substances continues, both the addictions and the mental health problems are strengthening themselves and each other. The now-addicted addict begins to spin out of control, and this is when the mental health issues will become most evident. If the mental health issues were hidden before, they are completely out in the open now. The behavior will become more and more erratic, and psychosis will likely evident as well.

This downward spiral can be avoided, by simply seeking mental and behavioral health treatment early. While the mental health problems' symptoms may be mild at firs, it is essential to make sure that these issues are addressed early to avoid a worsening problem.

Could You Be Addicted To Video Games?

Playing video games has become an enjoyable activity, a hobby for most; however, there is the chance that you could become addicted to video games.  This article will show what addiction is and how gaming can be an addiction, so you can see whether or not you have a gaming problem.

One of the best ways to determine whether or not you have a gaming addiction is to chat with a counselor.  These professionals are trained to evaluate addictions.  Another way to identify if you are suffering from gaming addiction is to see what the length of time is before you feel the need to play video games.  If you aren't able to make it through one day without playing a game, then you may have a form of gaming addiction.  When gaming interrupts socializing and daily functioning then it's no longer a hobby or activity to pass time, but rather something that is interfering in your life.

If you have a gaming problem then it is highly recommended you seek out help.  By looking for treatment you will be able to overcome the addiction and face withdrawal symptoms more effectively.  The withdrawal symptoms associated with gaming addiction are not as severe or painful as some drug addictions, but they can be psychologically strenuous.  Symptoms include feelings of boredom and a strong desire to play the relevant video game.

While undergoing rehabilitation and recovery therapies, you will continue to feel a desperate urge to play video games; but focusing on other activities and tasks will assist in overcoming the gaming addiction.  Gaming addiction can be very difficult to beat, but through determination and adhering to a treatment plan you will find rehabilitation is possible.

Now that gaming addiction has been explained, you have a deeper understanding of how to handle it.  Gaming addiction doesn't go away by itself, it needs to be treated and overcome like any other addiction.  Take this advice, use it and you will learn how to play games without depending on them.

Information on Drug Abuse

The truth of the matter is that if you are addicted to narcotics then you will pay more for your all of your life insurance premiums. The insurance companies have a table called the morality table. This table provides them the rates for all life insurance policies. It is based primarily on stats that have been gathered over many years about different types of narcotic moralities. These life insurance companies have been using statistics like these about death as their basis for what they will charge for the monthly premiums. They calculate exactly how people die, how many die from a particular narcotic and what the ages are of those who die.

Simply put, if you use a narcotic for an extended period of time, you will have a premature death. Therefore, these insurance companies must charge an extra fee on top of the regular premium. It is logical that they will need to pay off a drug addicted death much earlier than a person who does not use drugs. Simply put, people who use narcotics have a much greater chance of dying earlier. It has been a proven fact for years.

Narcotics have hundreds of dangerous chemicals that cause death. Many of these chemicals are known to also cause birth defects. As a parent, can you imagine the danger of a narcotic to an unborn child? If that is not bad enough, there is the added cost of maintaining a habit of narcotic use.

Therefore, if you will are in the process of purchasing an insurance policy be prepared to pay a higher premium. Studies show that narcotics are responsible for many health issues. They can promote heart failure, high blood pressure and destruction of the nervous system. There is good news however for those who quit. You will live a long and prosperous life.

Avoiding Addiction To Pain Meds

There are many pain medications available today that are attainable without a prescription. These include Tylenol, ibuprofen, and other substances that can help people that are suffering with chronic pain. Unfortunately, they can only work so well, and drugs such as Tylenol can do significant damage to the liver. That's why the best alternative for using over-the-counter drugs is going to be getting a prescription from your doctor for an opiate. In this article, we will address the benefits of using opioids, and even morphine derivatives, in order to control your pain levels, and also how to prevent addiction from occurring.

Codeine And Tylenol

Codeine is derived from opiates, specifically from the poppy seed. It is a natural pain reliever that works very well for those that suffer from chronic pain conditions. Unfortunately, they can become very addicting, requiring constant use, or going through withdrawals for several weeks at a time. Your alternative is over the counter Tylenol, but it does not work very well for chronic pain. The best combination is to combine Tylenol with certain opiate based drugs such as codeine, Vicodin, and many others. By having this combination, you can lessen the effects of addiction, and also prevent your liver from being overexposed to Tylenol.

Treating Pain Without Addiction

In order to avoid addiction altogether, the only way to do this is to stop using opiates. However, if it is controlling your pain, you will need to augment how much you are taking to prevent the addiction from occurring, or being too bad as you take these medications to control your pain levels. By using lower end opiates such as codeine, instead of Hydro codeine or morphine derivatives, you can easily control your pain without having to go through significant addictions if you ever decide to get off of these drugs.
